Newly Inspired Book Artwork - By Books and From Books

Inspired by some of the books I have lying around, I've started painting again. I'm looking at abstract painting by women Aboriginal artists, old medical books, mathematics, and the writings of Stephen Hawking. I have always been fascinated by pattern, nature, astronomy, and some of the recent findings from within and outside our own galaxy. Here are a couple of my latest original works on paper.

Rainy Day Ribbons and Tiles - New Paintings

I love rainy days like today to get some painting done! Despite the soggy fall gloom, I was particularly inspired; the patterns I was thinking about were kind of festive and loopy. These are just two of the pieces I started today. More to come soon.

My Debut At Serena and Lily

My apologies if some of these images are a repeat, but I'm writing with some big news - a few of my paintings are now featured as part of the Serena & Lily catalog website in the Bazaar + Art section. This is an exciting leap for me, and I'm so grateful to have a broader audience in which to market my work. Above are their choices, and below, as it appears online professionally framed and photographed for the world to see!

Someday My Prints Will Come

...and now they have! I am now offering prints in my Etsy shop. Up to now, I've only listed original artwork. For years, fellow artists have been telling me that I should get reproductions made of my paintings. As a new goal set for this year, I finally did the research and got it done! The resulting prints are slightly larger than the originals and the quality is amazing showing all details and maintaining that prized velvety quality on the archival paper - available at: www.kipi.etsy.com

Before and After - Book Page Paintings

Mitosis (left) and Early Man (right) - available in my shop.
This painting on the left is the one that started it all. It was an experiment. I liked the results, so later I came back to this idea. I ripped apart the rest of the book and painted on those pages too. And a whole new series was born. One of my most recent pieces is on the right. Using my initial motif of a cell wall with the nuclei splitting inside some of the contained areas, these small works have come full circle. Back to my scientific roots!

Art on Governors Island - The Better Than Jam Pop-Up Shop

This summer, I'm selling some of my artwork with other New York Etsy artists on Governor's Island. We've taken over one of the yellow houses in Nolan Park. The house is filled with gifts for yourself or for others - beautiful things like ceramics, clothing, and photographs. You could also find anything from housewares to jewelry to affordable artwork. If you've been to Governor's Island before, why not check out some of the work by us local artists? And, if you've never been to the Island, don't wait too long- our big sale is only running for approximately another month!

Blog Feature - Elysian Studios

Erin Fickert-Rowland from the Elysian Studios blog featured my work along with three other of her favorite artists as a wishlist of original artworks for Valentines under $100. As a painter herself, she has plenty of her own work around, but admires the work of others for inspiration and affordable gift-giving. Check out the post and the other artists here!

Science Into Art

I've been quite busy hibernating in my studio during this cold weather snap. These pieces were created with my old biological studies in mind. Painted on the pages ripped from an old chemistry book, they depict various compounds, muscle fibers, and a multi-planed formation. From left, "Crystalline Forms", "Peeky-Boo", and "Tetrahedron - Commercial Processes" - all of which are available now in my shop.

Chemical Romance

I've been working on some new paintings in line with the upcoming Valentine's Day holiday. These were both done on the pages of old chemistry books. Through the candy colored haze you can see the underlying scientific terms - match made in heaven (or the lab)! Now available in my online shop.

Art Pairing - New Work

Above are some new paintings I did today- Goth Drops and Mint Swirl.
I like to pair pieces together so that their colors complement one another like a fine wine with a delicious meal.

Some new pieces inspired by thinking about the summer that just passed, and the current fall harvest. I like these two paired together. They are now available in my shop.

New Art - Modern Squares

New in my shop this week are some colorful Rothko-esque squares. I call the one on the left "70s Tapestry" because it reminds me of the colors of a macrame' sort of thing that might have hung in my parents' basement decades ago. The one on the right is called "Sphinx" because of the small image of the Eyptian icon on the lower right corner. It also features the neutral colors of the sandy desert.

Blog Feature - Etsy's {NewNew} Team

I recently became a member of Etsy's {NewNew} Team, a group of Etsy participants who live and work in New York City. Its purpose is to provide a support network of other local artists and designers who wish to promote their work and have fun together socially. As a recent member, I'm happy to have my work featured in a recent blog post for the Team.

The post cleverly draws similarities between items that can be found at farmer's markets (one of my favorite Saturday morning rituals) and art work by team members. My piece below paralells the citrus/orange/yellow/fruit category. Have a look at the rest of the items here.
